The mainland is part of the world region Oceania. The Northeast coast of Australia is washed by the Pacific Ocean: the Arafura Sea and the Coral Sea, the Tasman Sea and the Timor Sea; the western and southern coasts are washed by the waters of the Indian Ocean.
