It was founded in the beginning of the XVIII century by Crimean Greeks and Armenians who fled from Turkey, who moved from the fortress of Or-Kapu (Perekop). It has been known since the 1730s under the name of Ermeni-Bazar (from the Crimean Tatar - Armenian Bazaar). In 1921 it was renamed into Armyansk.
