Palekh - urban-type settlement, located in Ivanovo. The old Russian center of Russian folk art - Palekh lacquer miniatures and iconography. The exact date of the foundation of Palekh is unknown, according to historians' assumptions, it is possible to date the emergence of a settlement about the 9th century. Starting from the 17th century, Palekh was one of the centers of icon painting in the traditions of Russian painting of the 15th-17th centuries, where, under the influence of various Russian schools of icon painting (including the Rostov-Suzdal school, Novgorod, Stroganov and others), a unique Palekh style was formed icon painting, which reached its heyday in the XVIII - early XIX century. The author of the first Palekh lacquer miniature “Adam in Paradise”, written in a unique Palekh style in 1920, was the famous Palekh artist Ivan Ivanovich Golikov, after whom one of the Palekh streets was named.
