Eskisehir (tur. Eskişehir, which means old city, from eski - old and şehir - city) is a city in Turkey. The administrative center of the eponymous silt and urban area. Population: 789,750 inhabitants. Located on the Porsuk River, 250 km west of Ankara, 350 km southeast of Istanbul, 90 km northeast of Kutahya.
Founded under the name Doriley (Greek Δορύλαιον).
It was the third capital of the young Ottoman state at the beginning of the XIV century, until the conquest of Edirne.
During the heyday of Byzantium, Dorylai was one of the most developed cities in Asia Minor with a good climate and rich infrastructure.
