Diyarbakır (tur. Diyarbakır, Armenian Տիգրանակերտ, Kurd. Diyarbekir) is an il (province) in southern Turkey.
Il Diyarbakir borders Elazig in the northwest, Malatya and Adiyaman in the west, Sanliurfa in the southwest, Mardin in the south, Batman in the east, Bingol in the northeast. Diyarbakır is a province surrounded by mountains.
The most important river of the province is the Tigris, originating in Elazig, flowing throughout the province and through its capital, the city of Diyarbakir, absorbing other rivers before turning south. A tributary of the Euphrates flows through the province in the northeast.
